United Church of Christ

The Christian Protestant religion of the United Church of Christ (UCC) has an estimated 1,700,000 followers. The United Church of Christ was formed by unification of the General Council of Congregational Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Churches in the United States in 1957. The General Council of Congregational Christian Churches had its origin with Pilgrims and Puritans circa 1620-1630. The Evangelical and Reformed Churches had their origins in the United States during the 1700s.

The United Church of Christ has central headquarters, located in Cleveland, Ohio (U.S.A.). However, the United Church of Christ is very liberal by allowing each individual church to determine its own doctrine and activities.

NOTE: The UCC is one of the few churches that supposedly welcomes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) Christians. See United Church of Christ - LGBT Ministries
