Protestantism
The Protestant religion has an estimated 96,000,000 to 288,000,000 followers or Protestants.
Protestantism began with the Protestant Reformation in 1517, when
Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Roman Catholic Church in Wittenberg.
Protestantism is one of three major divisions of Christianity, with the
other two being Catholicism and the Eastern Orthodox church.
Currently, Protestantism is broken into over 200 Protestant church denominations,
that deny the universal authority of the Catholic Pope and
affirm the Reformation principles of justification by faith alone,
the priesthood of all believers
and the primacy of the Bible as the only source of revealed truth.
Each Protestant church denomination has its own founder and history.
Most Protestant denominations are small (with less than 1,000,000 followers in each denomination).
Some Protestant denominations consist of only a single physical church.
See our HOME page (or index.html) for more information on the main Protestant denominations,
that include the Baptist and Methodist churches.
