Church of Christ (Disciples)

The Christian Protestant Church of Christ has an estimated 1,300,000 to 1,600,000 followers or disciples. The Church of Christ was founded by Presbyterians in Kentucky in 1804 and in Pennsylvania in 1809. Organized in 1832.

The Church of Christ has no central headquarters. The thousands of "Church of Christ" churches use a congregational governing system, which makes them independent from one another.

Jesus Christ is regarded as the head of the Church of Christ. Followers emphasize the teachings of Jesus Christ and his Apostles in a simple New Testament faith.
